Its chairman and managing director RK Gupta spoke to Hindustan Times on a range of issues. Excerpts:

Can you briefly elaborate on the services offered by WAPCOS?

WAPCOS’s spectrum of services covers a wide range of activities — feasibility studies, simulation studies, diagnostic studies, socio-economic studies, master plans and regional development plans, field investigations. It also provides detailed engineering reports including designs, detailed specifications, tendering process, contract and construction management. There is commissioning and testing, software development and human resource development in the fields of water resources, power and infrastructure development, as well. The company also offers concept-to-commissioning services for developmental projects in India and abroad. WAPCOS derives its strength from its human resources, which forms the backbone of the organisation. We have the in-built capability to provide expertise which comprises its own core group of professionals and specialists from various organisations of Govt. of India and various departments of state governments.

Can you tell us about WAPCOS’s international operations?

Apart from India, WAPCOS has successfully taken up assignments in about 50 countries. Are there are any plans for diversification?

WAPCOS has forayed and forged ahead in several new fields and regions and has been able to secure prestigious projects. More emphasis is now given on providing quality services to the clients. The quality management system has been upgraded to conform to ISO 9001: 2008 for consultancy services in water resources, power and infrastructure development projects by Indian register quality systems. The company has received Water Award 2010-2011 for ‘Best Consultancy Organisation for Outstanding contribution in the field of water in India’. The awards are instituted by The Water Digest and supported by UNESCO, PHD Chamber of Commerce, WES Net and NDTV Profit.
