Nasscom’s ‘10,000 Startups Programme’ shortlists 529 firms

Nasscom, the industry organisation of information technology and business process management companies, shotlisted 529 startups from among 7,000 applicants in the first year of its initiative ‘10,000 Startup Programme’.

The chosen startups — primarily in the software and Internet space —are offered mentoring sessions and opportunities for funding, co-founder and partner hunts.

“More than 100 startups got partners or co-founders through the Nasscom programme while more than 30 of them are in talks with angel investors for funding,” said Ravi Gururaj, chairman, Nasscom product council. The select startups got Rs 25 lakh to Rs 2 crore funding from angel investors.

Nasscom recently chose 25 innovative companies for a visit to the US.

Nasscom will strengthen ‘10,000 Start-ups Programme’ with initiatives such as ‘Girls in Technology’, ‘Start-up connect’ sessions,” said R Chandrashekhar, president, Nasscom. He added that the organisation aims to build more ‘start-up warehouses’ — a support system for the budding businesses — in different regions of the country.

It also aims to introduce more activities/initiatives that will support start-ups and build India as entrepreneurship-friendly nation.
