Nestle on Wednesday announced the setting up of its 30th research and development (R&D) centre in India at Manesar — close to Nestle India’s headquarters at Gurgaon.
The centre is expected to be operational in July 2012. “Out of our total global investment in R&D of CHF 1.3 billion (R5,960 crore), we’ll be investing CHF 50 million (R 229 crore) at Manesar Centre, which will help to further strengthen Nestle’s R&D capabilities in emerging markets,” said Klaus Zimmermann, head, Nestle R&D Centres Worldwide.
The new centre will focus on popularity positioned products that meet specific needs of consumers with lower-income levels, by offering them high-quality, nutritionally-enhanced products at affordable prices. Out of Nestle’s total investment of R1,000 crore, the firm plans to invest R350 crore in its upcoming facility at Karnataka.
“We’re focussing on building brands in India,” said Antonio Helio Waszyk, chairman and managing director, Nestle India.
