State-owned National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) said on Tuesday that it will invest Rs 3,000 crore to set up a 12 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) pipeline in Chhattisgarh to supply iron ore to its domestic steel customers.

The move is as much in line with the company’s growing capacity as to protect itself from naxal-related violence, which often derails its mining activities. “We will set a 424-km pipeline between our Bailadila mines and Vizag at an investment of Rs 3,000 crore,” said Rana Som, Chairman, NMDC.

The pipeline is expected to be commissioned in the next two years.
