Okaya Power ropes in Om Puri as brand ambassador

Power back-up equipment maker Okaya Power Ltd on Wednesday said it has appointed veteran actor Om Puri as brand ambassador for its batteries.

As part of the deal, the actor will promote the Okaya branded batteries through various marketing campaigns. The company, however, did not reveal the tenure and value of the contract.

Commenting on the roping in of the actor, Okaya Power Ltd Director Rajesh Gupta said it is an an effort to establish an instant connect between the brand values and Indian masses.

"Om Puri was the perfect fit to synergise with the brand..," he added.

On his association with the brand, Puri said :"It gives me immense pleasure to be a part of the iconic brand like Okaya, because I always prefer to associate with a brand I truly believe in."

The endorsement deal is in sync with the company's market expansion programme.

"The company is in an expansion mode and we are confident of achieving a target of becoming a Rs 1,250-crore brand in FY12," Gupta said.

Okaya batteries had clocked sales of Rs 750 crore in the last fiscal and is produced from four manufacturing plants across India.

The company plans to expand its presence by foraying into automotive batteries and water purifier segments and will be aggressive in these new fields from the third quarter this fiscal, he said, adding, the company has earmarked Rs 150 crore for the purpose.

The company said it has an installation base of more than 5 million batteries and a nationwide network of more than 32,000 dealers and 470 distributors across India.
