Apollo Tyres has rolled out its one millionth tyre from its plant at suburban Oragadam.
The company began commercial production at the facility 10 months back.
Apollo Tyres crossed the one million tyre mark late last night with production of passenger vehicle tyre Apollo Acelere 185/65 R14, a company statement in Chennai said.
"The Chennai team has done a very commendable job in a short span of time. However, this is just the start of our journey in Chennai. We are confident of achieving many such milestones", Apollo Tyres India Operations-Chief Satish Sharma said.
The company recently signed a supplementary MoU with the Tamil Nadu government to revise its investment from Rs 450 crore to 2,100 crore over a five year period. About 2,000 people are likely to be employed both directly and indirectly at the facility.
The Chennai facility produces 7,000 passenger vehicle tyres and 1,300 truck-bus radials per day.
