It appears that corporate culture has finally permeated into Indian bureaucracy.
Mandarins of Raisina Road are set to welcome the new government with Power Point presentations on matters that need their attention.
Cabinet secretary KM Chandrasekhar has written to all secretaries, asking them to “begin preparations for post-election scenario so that the incoming government is completely briefed about the status of various programmes and issues on which decisions have to be taken.”
“Secretaries must ensure that the material as above along with Power Point presentations are finalised not later than April 25, 2009 and copies sent to cabinet secretariat,” the letter says.
“Making a power point presentation is a good practice as it will clearly specify what should be the agenda for the new government,” said a former secretary. It would be however up to the new government to extract the full benefit of such presentations, he felt. “When Manmohan Singh became prime minister, he took briefing from five secretaries -- though these were not in Power Point,” he added.
