Rajaratnam's lawyers grill govt witness

business Updated: Mar 16, 2011 20:45 IST

Lawyers for hedge-fund billionaire Raj Rajaratnam, the prime accused in the US' biggest insider trading case, attempted to discredit the government's star witness, Indian-American Anil Kumar, accusing him of tax evasion and telling "a monstrous lie" to hide payments.

During the trial proceedings, John Dowd, Rajaratnam's defence lawyer, cross-examined Kumar, a former McKinsey & Co partner who gave his direct testimony.

Dowd attempted to paint Kumar as a liar who had concealed his earnings from his McKinsey partners.
