Rajeev Karwal (50) who helped turn around and establish several Indian and multinational consumer durables brands, shocked former colleagues and associates on Tuesday when he was caught assaulting a women police officer in Gurgaon.
In a 27-year-long professional career that began with a stint as marketing executive in Onida, Karwal, a management graduate from Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, has worked with companies such as Roshni LG, Philips before being appointed managing director of Swedish multinational Electrolux and then president and CEO of Reliance Retail.
“He is very driven and goal-oriented,” said a former senior executive of a multinational where Karwal worked. “But such people can sometimes rub others the wrong way.”
“I was shocked to hear that Rajeev had assaulted a woman police officer,” said another former colleague who had worked with him for several years.
Karwal’s phone was not reachable messages sent on it went unanswered. A woman who answered the land line phone at his office said he wasn’t in and that she would pass on the message that HT had called.
In the past Karwal has helped establish brands such as LG, ONIDA, Philips and Electrolux in India. In fact, his efforts to turn around and revive the ailing Philips Consumer Electronics and Electrolux was widely appreciated in the industry.
After quitting Reliance Retail in 2007, Karwal founded Milagrow Business & Knowledge Solutions, a consultancy and tech firm that “specializes in providing management capital to small and medium enterprises.”
