Reliance Industries (RIL) is set to launch its much-awaited 4G smartphones, though the company did not specify a schedule.
RIL said in a statement that group company Reliance Retail will soon launch 4G LTE smartphones brand named LYF (pronounced ‘life’).
“The brand built on the premise of user-experience will offer high performance handsets that deliver a true 4G experience comparable to the best in the world,” the statement said.
Reliance plans to sell LYF phones through its wide distribution and retail networks, as well as multi-brand outlets and Reliance Retail stores.
The company said Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJIL) is in an advanced stage of rolling out digital services all over India. The company will ramp up its beta programme over the next few weeks, prior to commercial launch in the first half of 2016-17.
RJIL holds a pan-India unified licence and has the highest amount of liberalised spectrum among telecom operators.
RJIL has previously stated it will share spectrum in the 800MHz band with Anil Ambani-led RCom across seven circles.
