Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom arm of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), on Sunday assured users of Jio Chat that their privacy and security is well respected and protected.

On Thursday, a few social media websites alleged that Jio Chat users’ data was being transferred to servers outside of India using a code implanted in the application.

The company reiterated that all Jio Chat data and associated servers were hosted physically in Reliance Jio data centers in India. As part of standard development practices, the code has a reference to servers in the comment area.

“This is not an executable code, meaning these references are not used by the application. Proper and complete examination of the code would show that the app does not transfer data to servers outside of India,” states a statement from RJio.

“We believe that the analysis published is a deliberate attempt to sensationalise the issue,” the statement added.
