Reliance Power's mine plan for its 4,000 MW, Tilaiya ultra mega power project (UMPP) received the central government's approval last month.
The coal mines — Kerandari B&C located in Jharkhand — have an approved mine capacity of 40 million tonnes per year and can support 10,000 MW of power generation. However, the coal reserves are in excess of 1.2 billion tonnes.
The company has already obtained the first stage environment clearance for the same and land acquisition process has been initiated in the region. The Tilaiya UMPP is being implemented through a special purpose vehicle named Jharkhand Integrated Power Ltd (JIPL).
Power Finance Corporation, on behalf of the ministry of power floated the SPV and is responsible for land acquisition and obtaining various clearances for the SPV.
