A benchmark index for Indian equities markets pared some of its intra-day losses and closed 74 points lower on Wednesday.
The weakness following Tuesday's rate hike by the Reserve Bank of India, however, continued to dampen the market breadth.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 18,558.33 points, closed at 18,460.62 points (provisional), down 74.07 points or 0.4% from its previous close at 18,534.69 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange shut shop at 5,537.3 points, down 0.5%.
Broader markets also ended in the negative as well with the BSE midcap index closing 0.43% down and the BSE small cap index ending 0.56% down.
