The BSE benchmark Sensex on Thursday ended flat, closing 9.39 points down to 18,384.90 even as the food inflation broke away from its declining trend and climbed to a two-month high of 9.01% for the week ended May 28.
The Sensex, which had lost 101 points in the previous session, dipped by 9.39 points after moving in a range of 18,449.64 and 18,327.01.
Broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty fell by 5.80 points to 5,521.05.
Asian stocks also fell, dragging the regional benchmark indices to its lowest level in two weeks, after the Federal Reserve said the the US economy was slowing in some regions, adding to the signs that the global recovery is weakening.
At home, the food inflation rose to 9.01% for the week ended May 28 from 8.06% in the previous week.
