The 28-month-old dispute over land for the Tata Motors' Nano car project in Singur in West Bengal seemed to be finally heading for a solution after mediatory talks initiated by Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi in Kolkata on Friday.

"We are heading towards a solution," said Partho Chattopadhyay, leader of the Trinamool Congress, the party that was spearheading the protests over acquisition of farmland for the prestigious small car project that has gained global attention.

The talks are to continue on Saturday.
