Subashni’s performance enthral’s everyone

The performance of Subashni Balasubramanian took place on September 7, at Epicentre, Apparel House, Sector 44 Gurgaon at 6.15 p.m. The chief guest of the event was Mrs. Lalage Prabhu, advisor to Lancers International school. Subashni performed a pushpanjali (dance based on floral offering), a composition dedicated to Ganesha the remover of obstacles- Gajananam and Maha Ganapatim and a hymn to Goddess Durga among other pieces. Her varnam Vanajaksha, the central piece with elaborate technical and expressional requirements, is in raga Behag. Besides Guru Vasudevan who will lead the orchestra with nattuvangam, the accompanying artists will be K. Venkateshwaran (vocal), Tanjavur Kesavan (mridangam), Raghavendra Prasath (violin), Rajat Prasanna (flute) and Yagnaraman Iyer (morsunkh).
Subashni Balasubramanian is currently studying Beng Engineering Business Management at the University of Warwick in United Kingdom. She completed her IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate) and IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) in Lancers International School, Gurgaon in the year 2013.
Subashni commenced the celestial dance form, Bharatanatyam at the tender age of 6 under the guidance of Sh. Vasudevan after which she continued learning under Smt. Subbulakshmi in Gurgaon. She is also trained in Karnatak vocal music from Smt. Kamala Srinivasan.
Subashni is currently the secretary of Warwick Indian Classical Dance society. She is also actively involved in Warwick Indian Music Ensemble and hence has given many performances in University. Subashni is also involved in other societies such as Warwick Model United Nations, UNICEF, Warwick Inspire and Teach First, TedX, Warwick Entrepreneurs and Warwick Debating Society.r
In year 2013, she was elected to be in the SSLC (Student Staff Liaison Committee) for the engineering department at the University of Warwick. She has always been part of the Student Council in her school. She was voted to become the “House Captain” in 2009-2011 session and later, appointed as the “Head Girl of the school” for session 2011-2013.
In 2012, she had attended summer school at University of Oxford and Cambridge in UK during summer (June-July) and Easter (March-April).
In 2011, she was invited to participate and attend the “Global Young Leaders Conference” which was hosted by the US Congress in Washington DC and New York for two weeks. The final simulation took place in the ECO-SOC Committee at the United Nations Head Quarter in New York which expanded her cultural awareness and cultivated hinherent leadership skills as she got to interact with top scholars from more than 100 countries worldwide.
In 2010, she was chosen as one of the top twenty finalists across India for exemplary community service work which was awarded by The Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards - a recognition programme for volunteer community service. This programme is an extension of the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards (the largest youth recognition programme in the United States) which recognized twenty young volunteers from all over the country to be presented as the distinguished finalists for their selfless commitment, personal initiative and inspiring accomplishments and Subashni was one of the finalists. Subashni has always been involved in community service throughout which includes teaching underprivileged children during her holidays by running a summer school, distributing food and clothes to slum kids on a weekly basis and even organizing fundraising events for charities and NGO’s. “Whatever you do, do it whole heartedly” has always been a motto for Subashni as she wanted that her efforts should also inspire other young students to work for the society.
Subashni enjoys participating in debates, science colloquiums, elocution, extempore speeches and anchoring programmes. She has always been an important part of the school debate club and MUN (Model United Nations) group hence she has participated in many interschool competition and won several awards. She has participated in approximately 8 MUN’s and recently attended ones are in University of Nottingham, Cambridge and Warwick itself.
Subashni is therefore a multitalented, affectionate and a hard working student who is enthusiastic about what she wants to achieve. She flourishes on challenges and relishes opportunities that come along her way. She is also a skilful communicator with proficient team working and leadership qualities.
