Tech major Infosys is taking a slew of measures to shake off its industry laggard image. The company is focussing on geographical spread, a stronger sales force and new service lines to revive growth, SD Shibulal, MD & CEO, told Hindustan Times.

“We are going to areas we have not covered. We are not present in West Asia, in Latin America and in various part of the world. We will penetrate these areas one by one,” Shibulal said.

In the last quarter Infosys has set up a 100-seat delivery centre in Araraquara, Brazil to provide SAP application management. And it is expanding its global sales force. BG Shrinivas, president and board member, said the company is hiring talent in all markets. “We are aggressively looking at expanding market coverage. The hiring process is already on,” he said in a recent analyst call. “We have also re-skilled some of our delivery talent and reinvesting in all our high growth accounts to backfill some attritions.”

Infosys will hire 250 MBAs globally, of which 50 would be in Europe alone, with specific focus to have people with local cultural connect.

“It is important for us to recruit on-site because our business is becoming more and more local-dependent,” Shibulal said.

He said the company’s focus on big ticket discretionary spends and product and platform businesses will pay off only in 5-7 years.

“No peer of ours in India has the kind of revenues we have in consulting and system integration,” he added.
