The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which is implementing a major expansion in and around the national capital, will get an assistance of Rs 1,769.60 crore from the Centre this fiscal, according to the Union Budget presented on Monday by Finance Minister Pranabh Mukherjee.

Of the total investment of Rs 3,247.75 crore during 2009-10, the DMRC will get from the Centre Rs 1,769.60 crore by way of direct funding to the extent of Rs 1,616 crore, grant of Rs 89.60 crore and subordinate debt for Central taxes of Rs 64.60 crore.

Ahead of the Commonwealth Games next year, the DMRC is expanding its network to satellite towns of Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurgaon with the help of the Centre and the states.

While the Budget proposal for Delhi Metro last year was Rs 1,568 crore, the government revised it to Rs 3,678.20 crore after the transit system enhanced its investment plans to Rs 5,732.32 crore from Rs 3,388.86 crore.
