Selective hiring continues amidst job losses and a freeze on mass hiring across industries, indicates a new report from the head-hunting business.
The next few months are likely to be crucial for job seekers as well as recruiters as companies finalise their hiring plans and budgets for the new financial year that started on April 1, says the report from Info Edge, the company that runs Internet job portal Naukri.com
Indicating a small yet steady increase in job demand for the second consecutive month, the Naukri JobSpeak index for February indicates a 5 per cent uptick in hiring activity from January.
The index compares the number of jobs posted on Naukri.com every month against a base of 1,000.
“Selective hiring is happening across most sectors now. However, the next few months will be challenging for the industry,” Sumeet Singh, national head – marketing and corporate communications, Info Edge.
In February, a total of 774 jobs from across sectors were posted on the portal. This is the second consecutive month when the demand for new jobs showed a slight improvement, after the market saw its year’s worst hit in December and indicated a 31 per cent decline since July 2008.
