India’s third-largest IT services firm Wipro on Monday announced the appointment of Abidali Z Neemuchwala as the company’s new CEO from February 1.
Neemuchwala, who is currently group president and COO, will be replacing current chief executive TK Kurien, who will be elevated to the position of executive vice chairman. Kurien will complete five years as the Wipro Wipro this month.
“In his nine months as the Group president and chief operating officer, Abid has effortlessly assimilated into the culture and ethos of Wipro,” Wirpo chairman Azim Premji said. “The new structure will ensure smooth succession and will build on the solid foundation we have developed to drive superior growth and profitability. I wish both TK (Kurien) and Abid every success in their new roles.”
Neemuchwala had joined Wipro only nine months back, and his elevation to the position of CEO was as per the plans to replace Kurien, said sources.
Neemuchwala is an industry veteran, 23 years of which was spent in India’s largest IT company Tata Consultancy Services, where in his last role he headed the company’s BPO services. He was awarded the BPO CEO of the Year 2010, and in 2012 he was recognised by the Shared Services Organisation of IPQC (In-Process Quality Control) for his personal contribution to the industry.
“I am convinced that we are well positioned to seize new opportunities in today’s marketplace. I look forward to working with Wiproites to take our company to greater heights,” said Neemuchwala.
