World Bank head Robert Zoellick on Tuesday urged countries not to use export bans on food produce to deal with the food crisis.

Zoellick made the remarks during a press conference after leaders of 27 key international agencies met in Berne to hammer out a battle plan of emergency measures to resolve the global food crisis.

"We urge countries not to use export bans," said Zoellick, adding that such bans would only further elevate food prices.

He welcomed Ukraine's moves in lifting such a restriction on wheat, noting that it resulted in an immediate lowering of prices.
