Consumer Internet giant Yahoo launched its e-mail service in Hindi on Tuesday, targeting 200 million Indian users who are expected to go online in the next few years. To type a mail in Hindi, users will need to either have a Hindi keyboard or download software called IME that can get you an online Hindi keyboard.
The company also introduced a web-based version of its popular Yahoo! Messenger. Instead of downloading the instant messenger on your PC or a laptop, users can log in to http://in.webmessenger.yahoo.com and chat with their contacts.
This web messenger will allow users to chat in English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi and Gujarati. The same service would not be available on cellphones yet as the protocol is yet to be ready.
