A section of engineers of the near-bankrupt Kingfisher Airlines went on a strike this evening over non-payment of salaries, affecting the flight operations.|

"Engineers from New Delhi and Mumbai bases are on strike since today demanding immediate payment of salaries which remain
unpaid for the past seven months," KF sources told PTI this evening.

Due to the strike, some flights were delayed, sources said, adding that services of manager-rank engineers are being used now.

As per the DGCA norms, an aircraft can't take off unless its air worthiness is certified by the airline's engineers.

Kingfisher management, which has not paid salaries to most of its staff since March, had a meeting with representatives of employees last week, but failed to give any firm assurance.

The Vijay Mallya-owned airline is saddled with bank loans of Rs. 7,000 crore which it has not serviced since January.
