There is an old saying: when elephants fight it is the grass that gets trampled. Employees at India's telecom seem to be in the predicament of the grass as the devastating verdict in the 2G spectrum scandal hit home with the cancellation of 122 licences, putting jobs and careers at
stake.

"I am flooded with calls from family and friends. We all feel ditched as we have not been communicated about how this decision will impact our current employment," said a senior telecom executive at Uninor.

A senior manager a Datacom Solutions, 40 years old with a family of six to support, said his life was at the crossroads. "I do not know whether I will receive my next month's salary or not," he said.

However, Kamlesh Bhatia, a director with industry research firm Gartner said the verdict may not have a "domino effect" on employees, while Jaideep Ghose, partner at consulting firm KPMG, said it will take three or four months before employees get a clearer picture.
