The craze for vanity numbers is yet to die down, especially in the rural pockets of Chandigarh, as the number 'CH-01-AW-0001' was auctioned for Rs 7 lakh to Butrela village resident Gursewak Singh here on Saturday.
The number was sold in an open auction conducted by the UT registering and licensing authority (RLA), during which it earned Rs 53.54 lakh by the sale of all the 100 numbers that were put under the hammer. This was the first time that the RLA was able to sell all the numbers it had put up for auction.
The second highest bid was received for the number 'CH-01-AW-0009', which was auctioned for Rs 3.5 lakh, against its reserve price of Rs 15,000. The number was sold to AG Shares Private Limite, Raipur Khurd village. There were 15 applicants who had bid for this number.
For the number 'CH-01-AW-0001', nine persons had participated in the bid process.
The numbers 0002 and 0003 of the 'CH-01-AW' series were sold for Rs 2 lakh each to Sector-33 resident Rajinder Singh and Sector-43 resident Jaspal Mann, respectively. There were seven bidders for 002 and there 4 applicants for 0003.
