As many as 1,200 UT police personnel would be deployed for maintaining law and order during Republic Day celebrations in the city on January 26.

The police would work under the supervision of eight deputy superintendents of police.

Besides elaborate security arrangements, traffic diversions would be in place near Sector 17 parade ground and Punjab Raj Bhawan. Entry on roads leading to the parade ground would remain restricted since early morning on Saturday. Police would not only take up special patrols till Republic Day, but also plan to carry out a complete dress rehearsal during the period.

Nakas have been set up on city's borders with Panchkula and SAS Nagar. Besides, police control room vehicles would remain deployed around slums and colonies in UT.

Police are also carrying out checks in motels and guesthouses across the city to prevent safe havens to suspicious elements.
