Government agencies and private millers procured more than 1,26,41,828 tonnes of wheat till last evening.
The Punjab government has set up more than 1,750 procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of wheat.
An official spokesperson said government agencies procured 125,44,195 tonnes whereas private traders procured 2,141 tonnes of wheat till Friday.
PUNSUP has procured 28,54,155 tonnes, followed by MARKFED 27,75,422 tonnes, PUNGRAIN 21,50,224 tonnes, PSWC 14,44,139 tonnes and PAIC 14,24,711 tonnes of wheat. The FCI had been able to procure 18,95,544 tonnes, he added.
The spokesman said Sangrur district with 12,14,779 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas Ludhiana district with 10,36,785 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and Patiala district with 10,22,624 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
