In a daring robbery in which more than five gunshots were fired, a criminals’ car tailed a Toyota Showroom vehicle, hit it from the rear at Industrial Area Phase- 1 on Tuesday, and robbed the passengers of ` 1.28 lakh and bank drafts of ` 18 lakh.
The robbers fired at this car when victims refused to down the glass; and (right) a shell recovered from the scene. The gunshots seriously injured the victims, who are admitted at the PGIMER in a critical condition.
Police said that the showroom’s accountant Deepak, 30, and his colleague Pradeep, 29, were on their way to deposit the day’s collection in a bank in the dealership’s demo car, Etios Liva. Near the Nissan showroom turn in the Industrial Area, the robbers’ Etios car hit the victim’s car from the rear. The demo Liva car hit the wall of a park.
Two of the robbers then got out of the car and asked Deepak and Pradeep to roll down their windows. On their refusal, they fired at the car five times. The incident has three eyewitnesses. At the nearby Bhuwan Chand’s tea stall, Chinnu and Manoj were having tea. When they tried to intervene, they were threatened.
Chinnu said: “The culprits could be 4-5 in number, but only the two who fired the shots came out. They were wearing caps and their faces were covered.”
“We have registered a case for robbery and under the Arms Act. We are investigating the case,” said DCP Ashwin Shenvi.

A white Etios car was also used in the loot of rs 16.08 lakh from two employees of a petrol pump at gunpoint inside the Amravati City Centre in Amravati Enclave, Sector 2, at the Kalka- Pinjore Urban Complex on October 3, 2013.

Doctors said that Deepak was hit with one bullet in the chest, while six bullets were pumped into Pradeep with one each in arm, shoulder, stomach and leg. He took two bullets in the abdomen.
