The district crime investigation agency (CIA) and Phase 8 police have nabbed two persons with one-and-a-half-kilogram charas, said senior superintendent of police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar here on Tuesday.
Bhullar said the police had laid a barricade at Spice Chowk, Phase 7, Industrial Area here and, following a tip-off, stopped a TATA Sumo (HP-33E-9288) and seized the drug contraband, which is said to be worth Rs 2.25 lakh in the international market.
The SSP claimed that the accused - Sanjeev Kumar, 35, and Jatinder Singh, 28, both residents of Himachal Pradesh - had confessed to smuggling charas. Bhullar said that on Tuesday, too, they had come to the district to sell the contraband to one of their customers.
The accused have reportedly told the police during interrogation that they had delivered a kilogram of charas two months ago and that this was their second trip to the district.
Sanjeev Kumar had purchased the Sumo used for drug smuggling six months ago. Both have been booked under sections 22/61/85 of the NDPS Act.
