1-lakh theft reported from Panchkula temple

A theft took place at Shiv temple in Sector 20, Panchkula, on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The temple authorities claimed that around ? 1 lakh had been stolen from three donation boxes placed inside the temple.

The theft came to light at 5.30 am on Thursday, when Mukesh Sharma, a priest of the temple, found the metal chests lying outside with their locks broken.

Two chests were of 20-25 kg, while the third one weighed around 8-10 kg. According to the priest, in order to clear and collect the donated amount, they had opened the chests 45 days ago. Till today there could be around Rs 1 lakh in the chests, claimed the temple authorities.

The police was informed soon after the theft came to the light. A crime team, along with dog squad, visited the spot.

“A case of theft has been registered. We are investigating the case,” said station house office of Sector 20 police station, inspector Surinder Singh.
