10 killed, 2 hurt as taxi plunges into nullah in Kishtwar

At least 10 people were killed and two injured when the taxi they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into deep 'nullah' in mountainous Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir today.

"The passenger taxi which was on way from Dugga to Drabshala this afternoon at around 2pm skidded off the road and plunged into the 200-feet nullah in Dugga area of hilly Kishtwar district," a police spokesman told UNI here.

He said that the Tata Sumo (JK17-163) carrying 14 passengers was on way from Dhar Saroor to Drabshala when it met with the accident.

"Out of 14, two passengers were travelling on the roof of the vehicle who jumped at the time of accident and had a miraculous escape," the spokesman said.

He said nine passengers died on the spot and one succumbed to injuries while being shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital at Jammu.

The deceased were identified as Govind Ram, son of Dev Raj, Pardeep Kumar, son of Om Raj, Sapna, daughter of Des Raj, Anita, wife of Subash Chander, Mukta Devi, wife of Des Raj, Sandeep Kumar, son of Om Raj, Sheetal, daughter of Des Raj, Joginder, son of Krishan Chand, Ranjeet, son of Mohan Lal and Vishal, son of Des Raj (died while shifting from Thathri to Jammu), all residents of Dhar Saroor.

Meanwhile the injured Des Raj, son of Ram Saran, was referred to GMC Jammu from Kistwar and Vikram, son of Subash Chander, was admitted in Thathri hospital.
