11-year-old boy drowns in pond

An 11-year-old boy on Wednesday drowned in a pond at Sarkapur village while he was fishing his cattle out, the police said here.

Incessant rains have caused flood-like situation in the area, which had claimed the lives of two youths from Kot Kachhwa Khurd village in the district on Monday.

Aniket, son of Baljit Singh, had gone for grazing cattle near village pond, when the incident
took place.

Though Aniket's father Baljit along with other residents, immediately rushed him to the MM Medical College Hospital Mullana, the doctors after examination declared him brought dead.

Meanwhile, body of Rinku, one of the two youths who had drowned along with Jatinder in Tangri river on Monday evening, was recovered floating near Kot Kachhwa Khurd village on Wednesday.

The body was taken into possession by the police for postmortem.

Deputy commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi said the bereaved families would be given compensation and case had been sent to the state government for sanction of financial aid worth Rstwo lakh to each family.
