Police on Sunday rounded up 12 suspects in the murder of 17-year-old boy who was killed by unidentified masked men at his factory-cum-residence in Phase-9, Industrial Area, on Saturday late evening.
The victim, Karandeep Dhiman, was cremated here on Sunday. Speaking to HT, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said, "A total of 12 suspects have been rounded up, and it seems the handiwork of some insider."
On asking whether the motive behind the murder was robbery, Bhullar added police couldn't say anything as investigations were on and they were suspecting something else.
Cops are scrutinising close circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed at various points in the industrial area.
On Saturday late evening, two masked men entered the house of industrialist Harminder Singh and attacked Karandeep repeatedly with a rod. He was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police say after injuring him badly, the accused went to the first floor of the house and attacked his mother, Meera Dhiman, and maternal grandmother, Swatantra Devi, who suffered several injuries in the incident.
Karandeep, a Class 11 student, was studying in a private school in Sector 47. He was attacked while returning from tuition.
His father Harminder Singh, owner of Karan Engineers Private Limited, a screw manufacturing company in Industrial Area, was in Ludhiana at the time of the incident.
