It was about 13 days ago that Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) conducted second counselling for admission to the MBBS course, but the university has not uploaded the result on its website for making it public. According to rules, the result should have been uploaded within 24 hours.
"The university must put up the result of the second counselling on its website to maintain transparency. We have been waging a struggle against the university for bringing in more transparency as far as admissions to the MBBS and other courses are concerned," said Dr Sanjiv Kumar Sethi from Faridkot and Dr Indervir Gill from Moga.
"Only admitted candidates know about their admission to various colleges, but others are not aware of the details of admissions. It is the violation of the rules of the university," alleged Dr Sunil Kumar Garg from Mansa.
"It is sad that the second round of the counselling for admission to the general and some reserved categories for MBBS was conducted from July 24 to 26, but the result has still not been made public on the university website," said Sunil Garg.
"There might be some backdoor entries or other mala fide intention of the university in not uploading the result of the second counselling, which is supposed to be made available within 24 hours, and the university must come up with the detailed information of the filled seats," said the parent of a student.
"Besides, private colleges are allegedly charging about `1 lakh over the hostel and security charges. Students have already deposited the required `2.02 lakh as fee, but when they approach the private colleges allotted to them, they charge `1 lakh more on the pretext of some other charges which have nowhere been mentioned in the prospectus," alleged Sunil Kumar, a parent from Mansa.
"If the amount is chargeable, it must be mentioned in the prospectus so that parents may be aware of it. But, they come to know about it only on the spot when they report for admission," he added.
The parents alleged that some of the candidates apply for reserved category, but fail to submit the required certificates. "If such discrepancy is found in the filling of any seat, one can approach the court, but it is only possible if all aspirants get to know of the final result. The delay in uploading the result of second counselling is condemnable," said Dr Sanjiv Sethi and Dr Indervir Gill.
When contacted, Dr SS Gill, vice-chancellor of BFUHS skirted the issue not uploading the list of second counselling on its website saying, "Everything has been done properly." Colleges are also not charging anything except hostel, security or other charges as per rules, he added.
Satpal Singh, deputy registrar of BFUHS, said he would check it on Monday.
