14 dead, 10 injured in bus mishap in Chamba

At least 14 people were killed and 10 others were injured when a private bus they were travelling in rolled down a gorge at Shool Nullah in remote Salooni tehsil of Chamba district on Saturday.

The ill- fated bus was on its way from Chamba to Himgiri. “The bus on its way from Chamba to Himigiri, fell into about 700 meter gorge near Shool Nullah, around 70 kilometres from Chamba town,” told the police officials.

They informed that 12 people died on the spot while two succumbed to their injuries on the way to Kihar Hospital.

The incident took place around 3pm.

However, being a remote and network shadow area, the district administration received the information on the incident late. The rescue teams were rushed to the spot from Salooni and Tissa police stations.

The death toll could rise as the rescue operation were going on till filing of the report.

Though exact cause of the accident is unknown, the police said that the driver probably lost control while negotiating hairpin ben curve.

Locals started rescue operations before the rescue teams could reach the spot.

Most of the victims were from Himgiri and nearby villages.
