Additional district and sessions judge Roopam Singh on Thursday awarded 15-year jail to three persons, including a father-son duo, after holding them guilty of possessing 20kg opium.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on convict Angrez Singh, and a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on Angrez's son Jaspal Singh, Bhag Singh and Sohan Singh.

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on February 12, 2013, had booked all four accused and recovered 11 packets of opium weighing 20kg from a cavity created in the fuel tank of the truck to hide contraband.

NCB had got a tip off that a truck carrying contraband would come from Ambala for delivery in Chandigarh. The truck was driven by Bhag Singh while Sohan claimed to be its cleaner and found one Jaspal sitting in the truck.

Jaspal during the interrogation had informed that he was sent by his father Angrez Singh to deliver two packets of opium to one Sant Singh near the airport. He added that the opium was bought from Rajasthan. Following the revelations by the accused NCB had arrested Angrez.
