19-year-old student hangs himself

A 19-year-old youth committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his Phase-10 house here on Friday.

The deceased identified as Gaurav, 19, was pursuing his bachelor’s in commerce from Banur College in Patiala.

Phase-11 station house officer NPS Lehal said, “The police found a suicide note near the body. The note stated that he was taking the extreme step, as he failed to improve due to which he started hating himself. Moreover, he did not blame anyone, as he mentioned that ‘I do not have any grudges with anyone and this was my own decision’.”

The deceased’s father Vikas worked at the advocate general’s office, while his mother worked in Punjab secretariat, Chandigarh. When they reached home around 6pm, they witnessed their son’s body hanging from a ceiling fan.

Following which they informed the police and rushed him to hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Lehal said the inquest proceeding under 174 Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) had been initiated because suspicion had been raised by the family members.
