A 19-year-old boy drowned in a pond after he went for a leisurely splash with his friends at Valley of Animals Garden in Sector 49 C.
Around ten boys residing at a society called Small Flats Welfare Association opposite to the garden had gone for a swim in the pond on Tuesday.
The pond which generally used to be five-foot deep today was nine-foot deep due to some blockage of pipes. The boys had gone swimming at 9 am. At around 10.40 am Tinku's friends noticed that he was missing.
His friends then raised an alarm after which the body was discovered. Family members claimed that Tinku did not know how to swim but had jumped along with his friends.
Tinku' body was fished out by a 35-year-old neighbour Amarnath. He discovered the body floating on the surface as he jumped in.
Tinku's father Gokul Prasad works as a painter and his mother Uma is a house wife. The couple has another son who is 11 years old.
After receiving the information, police reached the spot and took the body to the hospital for a post-mortem.
