Senior advocate and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader HS Phoolka on Thursday demanded that Z-plus security given to the accused of the 1984 anti-Sikhs riots be withdrawn. He raised the demand in a communiqué sent to union home minister Rajnath Singh.
Referring to riots accused Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar, Phoolka said in the letter, “It is highly unfortunate that the leaders who are responsible for the killing of hundreds of innocent citizens get high security, palatial bungalows, and cars from the state exchequer.”
Leaders such as HKL Bhagat and Dharam Das Shastri, who have now died, also enjoyed this luxury throughout their lives. A large number of other persons are also provided security, Phoolka added.
According to him, during these 30 years, from if the expense incurred on providing security personnel, bungalows, cars and other facilities to these accused persons is calculated, it will probably be more than the compensation given to the riot victims.
“I earnestly request you to take immediate steps to not spend any public money on these accused persons. Rather, spend the same money for the benefit of victims,” demanded Phoolka.
