2, 000 to take part in PU annual youth fest 'Jhankaar 2014'

The four-day annual youth festival of Panjab University (PU) 'Jhankaar 2014' will start on Wednesday.

A total of about 2,000 students are expected to participate in the fest. This year the fest will enter its 39th edition. According to a press release by PU, there will be over 30 events which will take place in thE festival. From promotional events like Jaago and flash mob on the opening day, there will be various artistic and literary events like poster-making, graffiti and debate and youth congress.

Several cultural events like X factor, talent hunt and street play competitions will also be held.

The main attractions will be the law events like the and extempore moot court competition and the conference client counselling. "Conducting these kinds of academic events of a high intellectual stature is a great leap for PU and these events bring good names to the university,"said PUCSC president Chandan Rana.

Student participants are allotted different countries for model united nations, which they have to represent as delegates of the countries. The charters for this conference are also provided by the authorities concerned at the national level.

"The proceedings of model united nations conference are extremely formal and there is an executive board comprising of the experienced model united nations students who judge the participants,"said Rana.

This time, total participation of about 200 students is expected in this event alone.

Besides, students are coming from about four national law schools, including Delhi University, Nalsar University of Law, Hyderabad, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala, Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur, Himachal University and several other colleges from north India apart from local colleges.

About 20 colleges from all over north India are sending participants in the PU fest. Stay will be provided for two days along with three meals a day to all participants of the model united nations event. Cash remunerations will also be given for this event.
