The local court acquitted two persons of rape allegations for lack of evidence here on Tuesday.

According to prosecution, a 55-year-old woman of Surajpur, Panchkula, working as a sweeper in Pinjore's power department office, had levelled allegations of gang rape against Hardev Singh, a junior engineer in the same office, and his friend Anil Kumar, resident of Pinjore, in May last year.

As per the allegations, both Singh and Kumar had raped her for over a year. On her complaint, the police had registered an FIR for gang rape and criminal conspiracy. She had alleged that the duo had made a video of her and were threatening to make it public.

"During the trial, it was found that the alleged victim had taken a loan worth rs 4 lakh from Singh, which she was not returning. We were able to prove that she had made false allegations because she did not want to repay the loan amount,"said Sameer Sethi, Singh's counsel.

He said Singh had given the loan through cheques, for which a bank record was produced before the court.

"She had alleged that the two men had made a video of her and were threatening to make it public. No such video has come to light," added Sethi.
