2 escaped HuJI ultras rearrested

Two militants of Harkat-ul-Jehad Islami (HuJI), including hardcore divisional commander, who had escaped from police custody, were rearrested on Thursday evening from Ramban-Doda area.

"The search operations continued since night and both the militants of HUJI outfit were re-arrested this evening from Hansi Top area near Assar on Ramban-Doda border," a police official here told UNI.He said the matter is being investigated.

The militants identified as HuJI divisional commander Sher Khan, who was involved in a number of murder cases, and his associate Jameel Abbas alias Abdullah escaped police custody on Wednesday evening after they took the excuse of attending to nature's call at an isolated place between Patnitop and Batote area of Ramban.

They were being shifted back to district Jail in Udhampur from Kishtwar after their court attendance.

Four police personnel who were in charge of security of the two militants were suspended and arrested and a case has been registered against them for dereliction of duty.

Sher Khan had surrendered in November 2007 in Kishtwar. He was a resident of village Chatroo and was allegedly involved in a series of cases of killings and other militant activities.

Abdullah of Reasi was also involved in various militant activities.
Police have ordered an inquiry into the case.
