Additional district and sessions judge PP Singh awarded life term to two 19-year-old youths after holding them guilty of murdering a youth. The convicts have been identified as Sunil Kumar (19), a resident of Industrial Area, Phase 7, and Surmukh Singh (19), a resident of Balialli village in SAS Nagar.

The incident took place on July 9, 2013, when both convicts murdered a resident of Balialli village, wanting to rob him of his belongings.

The deceased Ranjit Singh’s body was later found in a choe at Balongi.

During investigation, the police found that the accused attacked the victim with an iron rod on the head, due to which he fell unconscious.

Realising their folly, the accused threw the victim in the Balongi choe. The police eventually found him and rushed the victim to hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

During the search of the body, police found that the wallet of the victim was missing.

Paramjit Singh, the brother of the deceased, alleged that his brother had been murdered by both the youngsters, following which the police registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC against the duo. The court also fined the convicts Rs 10,000 each.
