To make a clean and green environment in the district, more than 2 lakh trees would be planted this season and their upkeep will also be ensured.
This was stated by deputy commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu while addressing mediapersons after formally initiating the tree plantation campaign by planting a tree on the occasion of World Environment Day on Friday.
Sidhu said, "Trees are essential part of our eco system that play vital role for ensuring clean and green environment. O the occasion of World Environment Day, everyone should take a pledge for planting maximum number of trees and to hold the moral responsibility of their proper upkeep."
Sidhu said that SAS Nagar being the main entrance point for the Punjab state will be beautified. As such industrialists and builders have come forward and were cooperating with the district administration in various initiatives and development works.
He said that within one month there would be a complete makeover of the main entry points, main roads and cross roads in the district, which are being adopted by various companies/ industries for their proper upkeep and maintenance.
