Two station house officers in Panchkula have been indicted in a preliminary probe for allegedly taking bribe from some bookies who were recently apprehended by Haryana police.
The two have been sent to police lines as allegations cropped up against them after a betting racket was busted in Panchkula on May 10, police sources said today.
The role of the SHOs was being investigated as inquiries revealed that they had allegedly allowed the betting to take place in their respective areas.
Some of the bookies had allegedly even been let off by the policemen after they paid money to them.
Police is investigating whether the gang of eleven bookies, whose members were nabbed from different areas in Panchkula, had any connection with the IPL spot-fixing scandal which has come to light recently.
The allegations against the officers have been leveled by two persons who are complainants in the Panchkula betting racket case.
