2 snatchers held; stolen goods worth Rs 2.5 lakh seized

Police arrested two members of a snatchers' gang and recovered stolen items worth Rs 2.5 lakh here on Sunday. The accused had recently snatched a bike in Phase 6, said the police.

Police arrested two members of a snatchers' gang and recovered stolen items worth Rs 2.5 lakh here on Sunday. The accused had recently snatched a bike in Phase 6, said the police.

The accused have been indentified as Gurpreet Singh, 24, and Rahul Sharma, 26, residents of Mandi Gobindgarh, Fatehgarh Sahib, and both worked at a call centre in SAS Nagar. Rahul is a commerce graduate, while Gurpreet Singh is a school dropout.

In a press release, senior superintendent of police (SSP), SAS Nagar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said, "Both of them were arrested at Balongi. They were going to Industrial Area, Phase 7, on a stolen bike. They had been active from some time. It is learnt that there are two more members of the gang at large and raids are on to nab them. We have recovered a stolen Splendor bike, one laptop and 14 mobile phones from the accused."

During the naka, when both the accused failed to give a satisfactory answer, the officials at the checkpost got suspicious. After questioning, the cops came to know that the accused were riding the same bike that was stolen from Phase 6. Both were detained immediately.
