2 students drown, as car plunges into Bhakra canal

Two minor boys are feared to have drowned when the car they were travelling in fell into the Bhakra Canal near Ladal village on Saturday evening. According to the police, Sukhbir Singh and his friend Kaka Singh, both 15, and residents from Hussainpur village, were Class 9 students at Guru Ram Rai Public School, Katli.

Two minor boys are feared to have drowned when the car they were travelling in fell into the Bhakra Canal near Ladal village on Saturday evening.

According to the police, Sukhbir Singh and his friend Kaka Singh, both 15, and residents from Hussainpur village, were Class 9 students at Guru Ram Rai Public School, Katli.

They were returning home after distributing wedding invitations to their relatives and friends. As they reached the bank of the Bhakra Canal around 5:30pm, they lost control of the car, which plunged into the canal near Ladal village. With the boys not surfacing thereafter, they are feared to have drowned.

The police are yet to recover the bodies and the car from the canal.
