20 killed in bus accident in Himachal's Kinnaur district

As many as 20 people were killed and 15 injured when a private bus rolled down into Satluj River near Nathpa in Kinnaur district-around 180 kilometer from here.

As many as 20 people were killed and 15 injured when a private bus rolled down into Satluj River near Nathpa in Kinnaur district-around 180 kilometre from here.

The ill-fated vehicle HP63 -2051 was on its way from Kinnaur’s district headquarter Reckong Peo to Rampur. The driver of the bus reportedly lost control over the vehicle while overtaking another private bus.

The bus rolled down into the river. The mishap occurred at 4 pm in which 18 people were killed on the spot and 15 injured were rushed to local hospital in Bhawanagar, while those who sustained serious injuries were shifted to Rampur.

Naresh Kumar Lath, deputy commissioner, Kinnaur, said help is being sought from the Army and the disaster management team. The police and home-guards teams have rushed to the spot to carry relief and rescue operations.

Himachal Vidhan Sabha deputy speaker Jagat Singh Negi also reached the spot and monitored the relief and rescue operations.

The government has announced Rs 25, 000 to the family members of those died in the mishap and Rs 15,000 to the injured as an immediate relief.

Magisterial probe ordered

Chief minister Virbhadra Singh has ordered the magisterial probe into the incident.

Governor Acharaya Devvrat and the CM have expressed grief over the bus accident.
