A special court for crime against women on Saturday awarded 20 years in jail to a man for raping a 2-year old girl. Convict Sandeep, 22, a native of Uttar Pradesh residing in Sector 52, has also been fined Rs 1 lakh that would be paid to the victim’s family as compensation.
“Honour of a minor girl has been spoiled by the accused forever. Rape is an offence not only against the victim but against society as well. To curb [and] discourage the commission of sexual assaults, the court should deal with perpetrators of such offence with a stern and heavy hand,” said additional district and sessions judge Anshu Shukla. Turning down pleas of leniency, the court said, “The nature, extent and gravity of the crime are such that the accused deserves no leniency.
To commit rape on a [...] baby shows how an accused can stoop to the lust of his carnal desire which pushes him to the very world of animals, with no human instinct in him.”
The UT police had, on July 31 last year, booked Sandeep on charges of raping the minor girl who lived in his neighborhood, on the complaint of the mother of the victim. As per the police, the victim’s mother had gone to attend to nature’s call and returned to find her daughter crying and bleeding. The mother lodged the complaint raising suspicion against Sandeep after the girl named him. Medical examination of the victim confirmed rape and Sandeep later confessed.
