University Institute of Engineering and technology (UIET) authorities were helpless on Monday as countless paper stickers and photo copies of Panjab University Student Union (PUSU) alliance thrown around by the alliance at rally on the institute’s campus. This was the first rally permitted by PU after the announcement of polls.
Over 200 PUSU student leaders gathered at UIET to announce their panel and hold its rally, which saw leaders of the PUSU alliance. The alliance comprises outfits such as Gandhi Group Students Union (GGSU), Students Federation of India (SFI), Hindustan Students Association (HSA) and Himachal Pradesh Students Association (HPSA), besides PUSU.
Speakers targeted the Shiromani Akali Dal-led government in Punjab and exhorted students to not let the SOI enter PU. Speakers also targeted the Congress for corruption during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
Strangely, no candidate gave a speech at the rally.
Dean student welfare (DSW), Navdeep Goyal said that the rally has been videographed. “ We wil act once we get a from the observer. But there is no report of violation and the expenses made during the rally would be added to the expenses of candidates, if allegations are proved,” he said.
Meanwhile, advisory notices have been issued to candidates of PUSU alliance after its panel was found with party stickers .
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) which was to hold rally in main campus cancelled its rally for unknown reasons.
